Success at State Championships

Just over a week ago HGA was represented at the Gymnastics Tasmania Senior State Championships by a strong team of athletes aiming to achieve, or better, the qualifying score required to earn a place on the State Team for Nationals - the Australian Gymnastics Championships - being held on the Gold Coast in July. The Senior State Championships event is a huge, two-day competition, with competitors from all around the state joined by interstate visitors keen to offer additional challenge to our home teams.

In the WAG discipline, HGA was represented by Amber as well as Coach Holly and Coach Hayley (both technically competing for Kingborough). Despite these athletes (reportedly) not being ecstatic with their performances, they still scored placings to be proud of:

- Amber, competing Level 7, placed 5th on Vault in the 14 and over category

- Holly, competing Level 8, placed 5th on Vault and equal 5th on Beam

- Hayley, competing Level 10, placed 1st on Beam and 3rd overall

Coach Kobi - also competing for Kingborough - was our only MAG representative in this event and he finished as the Level 10 State Champion.

Our seven-strong Trampoline Sports team (Bronte, Ella, Emily, Isabel, Kiera, Poppy and Rosie) had a very successful weekend of competition across both national and international levels, coming away with the following achievements:

Emily: Women's Level 6 Tumbling State Champion, and second runner-up for the score-based 2024 Maggie Smolinski Female Tumbling Trophy

Poppy: Women's Level 7 Tumbling State Champion

Kiera: Women's Under 22 Tumbling State Champion and Junior International Female State Champion

Level 6 Tumbling: all three podium places were held by HGA athletes

Both Ella (Level 6 Tumbling) and Emily (Level 6 DMT) cruisily left achieving qualifying score to their last possible opportunity!

Huge congratulations to all our athletes, and a big thank you to our coaches and judges who represented the Academy over this massive weekend.
